The demands of RL sometimes encroaches on our VW lives, and May has been no different for Farnham. We've been preparing for a major event in my day job, and reorganizing (again). We'll get back on the KN trail again this week with our regular "Wednesday at Work" meeting in SL at 11:00 AM SLT

13 Apr 08 - "Sunday in Second Life" Meeting is at 06:00 AM SLT in any1 Gynoid's "Event Planning" Class at NCI Classroom in Caledon. Event planning is a very useful part of Knowledge Networking. This is an active class, so we can IM with each other (if the Group Chat is working) or listen to any1's excellent presentation.
LOCATION: Princeton Groups
The LM will put you in the default Telhub, but the meeting room (104/138/49) is one the 3rd level of the marvelous structure designed by Scope Cleaver. Follow the red beacon or IM us for a TP. Walking up the stairways is a good way to get a good look at this build.

I'm in Denver this week at my agency's Operations Conference, and I will be in world demoing for my RL colleagues, so be nice...ha!
Background
In our group meetings so far, we have had lively discussion with colleagues from 4 continents, 6 countries, and many timezones. Our focus is networking and collaborating with team members in a global real world within the virtual worlds, and questions of how we blend our personal and professional lives in the virtual world context.
While much of the discussion in groups sometimes emphasizes the technical aspects and problems, Knowledge Networking seeks to highlight events and organizations that demonstrate the community and colleague centered power of Web 2.0 and virtual worlds.
Please join us for a discussion about Real Life Networking that will keep us enjoying our work and contributing far longer, and will help us all do all the green things that are important. Can we talk?

There will be six speakers from the international environmental and community living/sustainability world (two of them from live interactive video feeds), plus a large variety of other speakers on a host of topics. I will be attending and speaking there as well, and I can personally vouch for the motives and skill of the organizer, Aaron Wissner, in presenting a top-notch set of information for those concerned with our environment, at a low attendance cost that is likely to set back Aaron more than he would like.

Pete,
Dr. Dobbs and CMP have a very active presence in SL. Not long ago they held the Life 2.0 conference in SL where major speakers presented and they had all the things you'd expect at a conference, except is was all virtual. They also have regular sessions as do several other such groups, such as Science Friday. Scilands is replete with many sessions. Feel free to ping me and arrange a meetup in SL where I have LMs that can take you to some of the locations.

Response to Pete: Most of the organization I know using VW for KM and colab are the non profits, dot govs, and .edu. I know that IBM is well invested in SL and other VW including their own intranet VW's, so I assume some of the top players are using VW for global team-sharing. As we have seen in the past month or so with the KN Group, this model works very well for global knowledge storming, on a regular basis.
Combining VW with web networking (like AVW, you own Ning network) provides a great deal of the communications and coverage that these teams use for planning and executing all types of projects.

I am wondering if the collective intelligence of the KN could provide me with some examples of well known companies using SL for knowledge sharing and creative collaboration ?
